Chelsea has decided to pass on signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has one year left on his contract at the Italian club.
Enzo Maresca‘s side is expected to replace goalkeeper Robert Sanchez this summer after a season where the Spaniard made several mistakes in the Blues’ goal.
The front-runner was expected to be AC Milan keeper Maignan, who is regarded as one of the best in the world. However, Chelsea would have had to pay £25m based on AC Milan’s valuation of the goalkeeper with just one year left on his contract.
The deal hasn’t progressed in time for the Club World Cup, so Chelsea are now opting against signing the Frenchman. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X that Chelsea “maintain full trust in Petrovic, Sanchez, Jorgensen and Mike Penders” for the role of goalkeeper.

Maintaining full trust in their current goalies having just been negotiating for a new one is an interesting stance

Who will Chelsea start up front moving forward?
Considering the fact that Chelsea were looking at Maignan, they may not have ‘full confidence’ in Robert Sanchez, so could they start one of their other goalkeeper options instead.
As one of the Chelsea fans suggested by posting a picture of him, Djordje Petrovic could be an option for the Blues. He spent last season on loan at RC Strasbourg in France, making 31 appearances. He conceded 38 goals and kept 10 clean sheets.
The 25-year-old impressed at Strasbourg. However, Filip Jorgensen has also impressed when he stepped in during the Europa Conference League matches, so he could be an option for Maresca too.
