Enzo Maresca is in “no danger” of losing his job as Chelsea head coach, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues have won just two of their last nine league fixtures but, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the club’s hierarchy are “very happy” with their current manager:
“Despite the recent results, and I understand the frustration on social media, but what I can say is that, internally at Chelsea, they remain convinced that Enzo Maresca is the right man for the job.”
“So there is no danger, no problem, no issues. For the long term, Chelsea remain very happy with him, very happy with the approach he has with the players, the tactical approach, and the mentality he’s giving to the team.”
Why have things started to go wrong for Maresca?
Injuries have certainly played their part in the club’s dip in form. The absences of Wesley Fofana, Nicolas Jackson and (now) Noni Madueke have made life more difficult for the Italian.
The fact that he wasn’t supported during the January transfer window hasn’t helped matters either. The likes of Renato Veiga and Joao Felix were allowed to leave on loan without replacements being brought in.
Who will Chelsea face between now and the international break?
The 3-0 defeat to Brighton last time out means that Maresca’s side have fallen out of the top four. Fans were expecting Champions League qualification based on the club’s form in the first half of the campaign but that appears to be in jeopardy now. There is, of course, plenty of time to turn things around.
Chelsea have four Premier League fixtures before the March international break. They take on Aston Villa (a) this weekend, before facing Southampton (h), Leicester (h) and Arsenal (a).
