What Have We Learned About Chelsea? 4 Positives And 1 Negative After 3 Games Played

Chelsea have picked up seven points from a possible nine in their first three Premier League games, so there isn’t much to complain about if you are a Blues fan.

Some are rightly concerned that head coach Enzo Maresca may be undermined by the club’s decision not to strengthen in one or two key positions.

That may come back to bite this team later in the campaign, but for now, things look to be heading in the right direction. Read below as we look at what we’ve learned from the opening few fixtures.

Positive #1 – Joao Pedro

It’s now 5 goals from the Brazilian’s first 6 appearances. The forward looks like an excellent piece of business.

Pedro is seemingly comfortable when asked to play either as a No.9 or as a No.10, and that flexibility will certainly make him a very useful option for Maresca.

Having scored 20 goals during his first season at Brighton, the 23-year-old has already shown in his career that he can find the back of the net on a consistent basis, and if he can replicate that total during his first 12 months at Stamford Bridge, supporters will be very happy indeed.

Positive #2 – No Cole Palmer, No Problem

The absence ot the team’s most creative player did raise concerns about how they would generate chances to score enough goals.

However, Chelsea have managed to find the net 7 times in the two fixtures without Palmer.

The underlying numbers are pretty decent, too, with Maresca’s side racking up a total of 5.13 xG.
