Chelsea need to make a move after this midfielder’s transfer request

Chelsea are seeking major improvements this summer to approve their Premier League winning side ahead of their return to the Champions League next season, where the depth within their squad will be put to the test.

The Blues need to strengthen their ranks in a number of areas but finding the ideal midfield partner for star-man N’Golo Kante, especially with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas both being linked to exits this summer.

Conte has a number of reported targets this summer, one of which is Monaco ace Tiemoue Bakayoko, but the Italian boss may now eye a new face following sensational reports from the continent- which suggest a favourite of his may be available.

French outlet L’Equipe state Italian midfielder Marco Verratti has informed Paris Saint-Germain he wants to leave this summer, which may put Chelsea on alert- although Barcelona are considered to be the favourites for the established midfielder.

The 24-year-old is a favourite of Conte, having worked with the Chelsea boss with Italy’s national side, and he previously stated that Conte is the best boss he has ever worked under- in comments made to Sky Italia in 2015.

‘I believe Conte is the best coach I have ever worked with. He is a tactician who really focuses on the details and knows absolutely everything about his opponents.’

‘This is why it takes a little while to really understand what he’s asking of us. Having Conte as Coach is a big advantage for all of us in the Italy squad.’

PSG are determined to keep their starring midfielder, as they seek to reclaim the Ligue 1 title from Monaco’s clutches next season and compete in the Champions League, which means a club-record fee of around £70m would need to be offered by the Blues.

Verratti would certainly be a sensational addition for Conte’s Chelsea side though and it would make a huge statement of intent, proving that the Blues have learnt their lesson from previous transfer windows following Premier League success where the club has failed to strengthen their ranks significantly.

With Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United all seemingly intent on spending incredible sums this summer to strengthen their own side and push to snatch the Blues’ Premier League title next season, Chelsea need to find a response.

Securing Verratti would show they mean business and his addition would also help the Blues in their return to the Champions League, where Chelsea will look to bring an end to a disappointing few years in Europe’s elite competition from Premier League sides.
