A representative of Flamengo midfielder Gerson is in Europe holding talks with Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund over a possible transfer this month, according to Fox Sports Brazil.

Flamengo have reportedly set a deadline of June 20th for the midfielder to find another team, with the Brazilian side holding out for at least €35m (£31m).

Fox Sports reported last week that an €18m (£16m) bid from an unnamed Premier League team was turned down by Flamengo with the offer falling way short of the club’s valuation.

Gerson has played in Europe before, but he struggled at Roma before being loaned out to Fiorentina. He then returned to Brazil last summer.

The midfielder’s father revealed last month that Arsenal are one of the clubs who are interested in the player but it appears Chelsea are now the frontrunners for his signature.

Whether manager Frank Lampard would need a player of Gerson’s profile, it is up for the debate, with the Blues boss having a number of midfielders at his disposal already.
