Chelsea name price for Alvaro Morata as Serie A giants circle

Chelsea have slapped a £62 million price tag on the head of Alvaro Morata after negotiations with AC Milan began last week.

Morata endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge having joined as a club record signing from Real Madrid last summer, scoring just 11 Premier League goals.

And with new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri keen to land Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, Morata now finds himself surplus to requirements.

Having spent two seasons with Juventus between 2014-2016, Morata was linked with a return to his former club with Higuain set to come the other way, however it appears AC Milan are now the front-runners for the Spaniard’s signature having opened talks with Chelsea over a potential transfer.

Sky Italy report Milan’s new sporting director, Leonardo, had a series of phone conversations about a potential transfer, with the player reportedly keen on a return to Italy.

Should he move to Milan this summer however, Chelsea will demand as much as £62 million as they look to recoup the £57 million spent on him last year.
