Chelsea Monitoring Situation As German International Marksman Stalls On Signing New Contract

Chelsea are among the teams tracking RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to reports in Germany.

The German international is currently in a contract standoff with his club despite being offered €6m (£5.3m) a year, which would double his current salary.

Werner is said to be keen to wait and see if a bigger club comes in for him, with his current deal set to expire in 2020.

Whether Leipzig will look to offload Werner in the summer if he continues to stall on contract talks, it remains to be seen, but there are a lot of clubs keeping tabs on the forward.

In addition to the Blues, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are also said to be monitoring the player’s situation.

This season, Werner has scored eight goals in 15 appearances and is currently Germany manager Joachim Low’s first choice striker.

The 22-year-old has nine goals in 22 caps for his country, including the opening goal against the Netherlands in the 2-2 draw earlier this month.
