Chelsea Miss Out On French Club’s Transfer Guru Following FIFA Ban

Lille sporting director Luis Campos turned down an offer from Chelsea after the club’s transfer ban was confirmed by FIFA, according to reports in Portugal.

The Blues had been linked with the 54-year-old over the past few months, but it’s believed the Portuguese was not happy with the prospect of being unable to sign players in the first year of his time at Stamford Bridge.

Campos is now likely to take a similar role at AC Milan instead, with his spell at Lille coming to an end.

During his time at the French club, the sporting director had signed the likes of Nicolas Pepe from Angers, Thiago Maia, Thiago Maia and Luiz Araujo from Brazil, as well as second top goalscorer Jonathan Bamba on a free transfer.

Lille will finish the season second in Ligue One, qualifying for the Champions League group stages next season.

Chelsea legend and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has now been tipped to take up a similar role after he retires from professional football following the Europa League final.
