Chelsea ‘Might Not Spend’ In Summer – Mourinho

Chelsea ‘Might Not Spend’ In Summer – Mourinho

After weeks and weeks of speculation, Chelsea have finally sealed the deal for Mourinho to return to Stamford Bridge for his second stint at the club. His appointment was confirmed on Monday after the Portuguese signed a new 5-year deal with the London club. Chelsea have suddenly become favorites for the league title next season, given their two nearest rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are themselves going through a managerial change.

Not to mention that the arrival of Mourinho was also being met with an expected splurge of cash from club owner Roman Abramovich, who is known to not shy away from getting his cheque book out and making big money signings. The massive financial backing coupled with Mourinho’s tactical acumen is being taken seriously by rivals in England and across Europe for next season, which was the exact formula that kickstarted Chelsea’s rise to dominance in the last decade.

However, Mourinho was reported by Metro as saying that he might consider not making big money moves this summer, and he feels that the current Chelsea team is capable enough to challenge for top honours next season under his leadership. He said, “We have to improve the team, but when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea will spend. When I say improve the team, I mean through work.”

“My work has to improve players and improve the team. If I don’t do that I am not happy with myself.

“If after that we can improve the team by buying a couple of players it is fantastic, but I have to improve the team and the players with my work. The priority is to improve. In the last two years we have struggled in the Premier League.”

“We must improve individually, improve collectively and improve the structure of the club around the football team, and try to win the next match.”

Do you see Chelsea and Mourinho rekindling their once-fearsome partnership this time around?
