Chelsea may have to sell Eden Hazard this summer says Blues legend Steve Clarke

Chelsea may have to sell Eden Hazard this summer in order to fund a rebuild of Antonio Conte’s squad, says Blues legend Steve Clarke.

Hazard scored the only goal as Chelsea lifted the FA Cup yesterday afternoon in a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

The Beligan converted a 22nd minute penalty after being brought down by United defender Phil Jones, who was lucky to escape a sending off for his misjudged tackle.

Hazard’s contribution was typical of his season, and even his career at Stamford Bridge – the 27-year-old has been the Blues most outstanding player over the past four years.

However he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Blues, demanding the club invest in talent this summer before he commits his long-term future to the club.

However ironically, Clarke believes in order to fulfil Hazard’s wish of bringing the world’s top talent to South West London – they may have to part ways with the Belgian himself.

“You can always look to replace players,” said Clarke, now manager of Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

“They come and go, they always move on. The club is the most important thing.

“They have to rebuild that squad a little bit. It wasn’t good enough to be in the top four. They have got a lot of work to do over the summer.

“To help fund other transfers for the club this summer maybe they do have to sell Hazard.”
