Chelsea May Finally Let Courtois Go

Thibaut Courtois is surely one of the biggest players in Europe, playing so well for one of the most successful teams this season. The young Belgian international, who is currently on loan with Atletico Madrid, looks keen to move especially with Cech being such a strong figure in Chelsea’s locker room. He was linked to several important clubs during the summer but stayed with the Blues hoping he will get his shot to finally replace Mourinho’s current favorite goalkeeper.

According to the Daily Mail, Courtois has decided to leave Stamford Bridge through having little to no perspective with the London club. The 21 year old will probably wait for the World Cup to end before he decides which way to go. The Belgian international is still under contract with Chelsea until 2016. Even so, he grew and improved his game in La Liga so he is not that well adapted to English football. That may be a problem for both him and the club who will surely prefer a stopper which is well acquainted to the Premier League. Another reason that points towards Courtois’ departure is the fact that he is already settled in Spain. His wife is Spanish and he has been living there for three years, in which he has been one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

Belgium could be the surprise of the 2014 World Cup so both Chelsea and Courtois are better of waiting until the end of the season to see where to go from there. Rumors have it that the 21 year old goalkeeper may stay in Spain but could move to Barcelona. With Valdes declaring that he will no longer play for Barca, Courtois may be the perfect replacement. The problem is that the Blues have raised the price quite a bit for their player. When he first came to Stamford Bridge, his price was 9 million pounds. Some rumors say that Courtois is now valued at somewhere around 34 million pounds which is a lot to pay for a goalkeeper.

The decision is yet to be made though. Chelsea will have to think hard about Courtois is future because goalkeepers like him are hard to find especially at such a young age.
