Chelsea Lose Another La Liga Target

Chelsea are losing out on another target in defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets, after the Barcelona star moved closer to signing a new contract for the Catalan club, snubbing the opportunity to move to the top English clubs interested in his services, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues returned to winning ways at the weekend against Watford at Stamford Bridge. Slaviša Jokanović’s men could only hold the home side from scoring till half time, but Chelsea upped their attacking threat as Diego Costa was introduced at half time alongside Willian. Loic Remy and Didier Drogba finally got the chance to impress for the club, but could not open the scoring for the first 45 minutes. Willian broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, before Remy followed in the 70th minute. Kurt Zouma, who replaced John Terry in the starting eleven, got on the scoresheet shortly after Remy’s goal to wrap up a much-needed win for Mourinho.

Busquets started his youth career with several Spanish clubs, before Barcelona snapped up the player in 2005. After two years in the La Masia academy, the defensive midfielder joined the Barcelona C side for a year, and after a spell in the Barcelona B side, was finally given a professional contract with the senior squad. Yaya Toure’s presence in the side kept the 26-year old out of the starting eleven, but since the Ivorian’s move to Manchester City, the Spanish inernational has established a place in the side.
