Chelsea Looking To Sign Max Meyer

Chelsea Looking To Sign Max Meyer

Chelsea seem 100% dedicated to their new initiative which involves bringing in the best youngsters in European football. Even if Mourinho’s side is already one of the youngest teams competing at the highest possible level, they still want to improve and lower their age average. With players like Terry, Lampard and Cole in their last years of contract, new names are being integrated into the team.

The latest footballer to make Chelsea’s wish-list is Schalke’s Max Mayer. The 18 year old midfielder has just made it to the Bundesliga. He has been with the German side since 2009 but made his pro debut at the beginning of this season. He has managed 12 appearances and has already scored three goals. The 5 ft. 7 U19 German international did not yet receive any offer from the Blues, but, according to ESPN, he is definitely one of Mourinho’s future targets. Even if Meyer is under contract until 2017 he could leave if his 18 million euro buy-out clause is paid.

Chelsea will apparently have to fight with Fiorentina in order to get Meyer’s signature who said he is not the man to talk to as far as transfer rumours go and that his agent is the go to guy in these situations.

Even if these rumours look pretty real, it is hard to believe that Chelsea will spend so much on yet another midfielder. The Blues currently have one of the best mid-sections in the Premier League and also one of the youngest. There is really no point in bringing in someone to sit on the bench and watch Hazard, Mata, Ramires and Oscar work their magic. Willian also looks to become better with each game so rumours regarding Meyer transfer may just remain rumours. It is more than likely that Mourinho will pay big money to bring in a striker which is what Chelsea miss most. Schalke’s midfielder is a bit too expensive and unnecessary right now considering the Blues’ current situation. He is also not that physically fit for the Premier League which means he will need a lot of time to adapt.
