Chelsea Looking To Russian Schennikov As Cole’s Replacement

Chelsea are looking to Moscow for their next transfer which was planned quite a while back apparently. According to Metro, CSKA’s Georgi Schennikov has once again been scouted by Mourinho’s people. The main reason for the increase in interest came after Luke Shaw seemingly decided to choose Manchester over London or possibly to not move at all for another season. With Cole set to leave after his contract expires, the Portuguese manager seems keen on finding a long term solution for the left side of his defense who was dominated by Azpilicueta last season. Even so, the Spaniard was played out of position which may have been only a temporary move considering he performs best on the right side of the pitch.

Schennikov is currently valued by Chelsea at £7million which might not be enough though for the Russian side to let their star player leave. CSKA refused offers from both Milan and Real some time back which means they have big plans for the Russian international. Despite the Blues being probably the most active team on the transfer market, they will still have to wait until the end of the World Cup. CSKA have a deal with the 23 year old which expires in 2017. The ball seems entirely in their court despite the player’s very probable desire to join Mourinho’s side.

Despite being interested in the Russian youngster, Chelsea will probably keep their options open and go for other left-backs as well, with Atletico’s Felipe Luis right there on top of Mourinho’s list of preferences.
