Chelsea Looking To Raid Serie A

Everyone expects to see Chelsea undergo an overhaul during the summer. Players are expected to leave and major names are expected at Stamford Bridge in order to move on from the start of the current season. It`s difficult to tell what is going to happen given the fact that the manager is still unknown. It’s also hard to tell because of the fluctuations in the players’ form. You have players like Matic and Hazard who you know are brilliant, but are currently underperforming. You then have players like Mikel or Pedro who most thought would see leaving this summer, but are now key parts in Hiddink’s starting eleven.

Leaving all statistics aside, we can still tackle some of the options Chelsea have when it comes to improving the lot. The most likely situation is that fans will see a striker, a midfielder and a defender move to London, but who will they be? According to the Daily Star, it is very likely they will come from Serie A which helps us narrow things down. Out of the three mentioned on this list, only one of the players is new when it comes to being linked to Chelsea.

Striker: Gonzalo Higuain – the Argentinian is the dream striker. The problem is that he is very expensive, he is 28 and he has to fight for a spot in the starting eleven with Diego Costa so is he worth the effort? Higuain is one of the purest strikers out there and he would definitely find a place in Chelsea’s squad. Money is not the issue as looking at what the club made from selling Ramires and from the Champions League, we can say that the transfer fee is covered. Higuain is now with Napoli but the idea of being able to win the Premier League might be enough to lure him to London.

Midfielder: Paul Pogba – this guy is still the dream target for any major club in the world. Valued at about £50million, the Frenchman would give Fabregas and Matic the opportunity to focus on their tasks and not feel pressured into helping the defense and the attack during every game. Planting Pogba alongside Matic and a couple of feet behind Fabregas looks like the perfect midfield.

Defender: Alessio Romagnoli – AC Milan’s defender could be a bold move, a move destined to cover any gaps that might remain after Terry’s departure. He could also handle the whole Zouma situation which is far from being resolved. Romagnoli is just 21, but is already close to hitting the 100 game milestone in Serie A. He would be welcomed at Stamford Bridge as everyone knows Italian defenders are top notch.
