Chelsea Looking For Long Term Replacement For Drogba

Chelsea have set their eyes on Roma’s Mattia Destro who does not seem happy to continue playing for the Italian side. The 23 year old who has expressed his appreciation for Premier League football on several occasions, is not happy with his situation at the Italian club. Currently seen as one of the most efficient forwards in Europe. Destro has a hard time impressing Roma’s manager who has not used the Italian international in any Champions League match up until now. Despite scoring 4 goals in 8 games this season, Metro have announced that he is not quite able to reach his full potential in Serie A.

Mourinho had another shot at Destro some time back but decided to go a different way due to the Romans’ high financial demands. Destro’s contract is to expire in 2017 which makes him a very expensive player. Even though money should not be a problem for Chelsea, there is still a matter of numbers due to the Financial Fair Play regulations. The Blues have one of the largest squads in Europe and will have to give up other players before signing a new striker.

Destro looks like a very versatile striker but could have trouble keeping up with the fast pace Chelsea play at. Even if he is great in front of goal, he is not on the same level with Diego Costa or even Remy. Moving to Stamford Bridge could be a problem if he were to become only Mourinho’s third choice as he has aspirations of playing more regularly than as a back-up striker in the squad.
