Chelsea Looking For A Reunion With Another One Of Their Former Stars

Chelsea do not look like they will rest on their laurels this summer as they seem to be lining up a number of signings to give their squad more depth and give their current first choice players competition for their places with Champions League to look forward to.

Despite the undoubted success of Marcos Alonso as the left wing back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation this season, according to the Evening Standard the manager is reportedly looking to bring back one of the Blues’ former players in the form of England international and current Southampton star Ryan Bertrand.

Under Ronald Koeman and subsequently under Claude Puel, Bertrand has really matured into a genuinely quality performer and has been looking most accomplished in the 3-4-3 system which the Saints also employ regularly so he could slot in with Chelsea quite seamlessly

Chelsea are no strangers to signing players who have been on their books previously as for example they re-signed Nemanja Matic amongst others from Benfica after he could not break into their first team in his first spell at the club and he has flourished this time around. Bertrand is still only 27 years old and while he was sold for £10million by Chelsea he would only cost about £25million to resign which in this day and age is actually quite decent.

Since Southampton are a club which is not afraid to do business and is good at replacing stars they sell due to their quality scouting system this is a deal which might well come to fruition. There is good profit for the Saints here and Chelsea would be getting a solid performer in Ryan Bertrand for a reasonable price who knows the club well. So don’t be surprised if you see this deal happen come the summer in addition to the other Saints star – captain Virgil van Dijk – who has also been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea as we wrote about previously .
