Chelsea Looking At Spanish Replacement for Cole

According to Metro, Chelsea are considering a move for Valencia left back Juan Barnat in the summer, when Ashley Cole’s long spell at the club will presumably come to an end.

Jose Mourinho’s men ran out 4-0 winners in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, and have taken a big step towards the Barclays Premier League title. However, one man who was missing from the action at Stamford Bridge was Cole, who has been struggling to keep his place in the Chelsea starting eleven. Cesar Azpilicueta has been installed as the regular left back, further dampening Cole’s chances of staying with the club over the summer.

Barnat began his career with the Valencia youth academy, and has represented Spain in the under-21 stage. The versatile defender is known for his crossing ability, and can also be deployed as a makeshift winger. The 21-year old has a £6 million valuation by the Spanish outfit, and hence is a more economical option when compared to Luke Shaw from Southampton who is valued at £30 million.

The summer could bring about a change in the look of the Chelsea squad, and players like Frank Lampard, John Terry and Ashley Cole could make their exist.
