Chelsea Looking At Roma’s Danielle De Rossi

Chelsea Looking At Roma’s Danielle De Rossi

Roma midfielder, Danielle De Rossi is currently on a holiday as he has been exempted from taking part in his club’s summer training camp in Riscone following his participation in the recently concluded Confederations Cup with Italy. He has been given some extra time off to rejuvenate ahead of the start of the new season.

The 29-year old is however being targeted by Chelsea, who have made signing a defensive midfielder their top priority for the summer. They have already shipped out youngster Oriol Romeu to Spanish side Valencia and are also uncertain about the future of John Obi Mikel, who is continuously being linked with a move too. Manager Jose Mourinho was reportedly chasing former Chelsea man Nemanja Matic and was trying to bring him back to Stamford Bridge. That deal however looks like a lost cause now as there has been no progress on that front for quite a while.

Therefore, it seems like Mourinho has now turned his attentions towards De Rossi, who has become one of the most commendable defensive midfielders in Europe over the past few seasons. DailyMail reports that the Blues will be putting all their might into pulling off this deal as Mourinho has identified him as the ideal man in his new look Chelsea side. De Rossi comes with a lot of muscle and fight in the midfield along with possessing aerial prowess, something which has impressed Mourinho.

It is not the first time he has been linked with a move to England, with Manchester City being strongly linked with him a couple of seasons ago when former City manager Roberto Mancini was initially assembling his team. He really wanted to bring his Italian counterpart to the Etihad Stadium but he was left empty handed in his relentless pursuit.

It is Chelsea’s turn now to try their hand at luring the highly rated De Rossi to the English Premier League but it looks like it could be a tough one as De Rossi has only ever really played for Roma, joining their youth academy from Serie D side Ostiamare in 2000. De Rossi could be a great signing but sometimes players just do not take to the Premier League – what do think? Can Chelsea sign him and would he fit in?
