Chelsea Look To Provide Sarri With More Firepower By Lining Up £50m Bid For Uruguayan Poacher

Chelsea are preparing a £50m bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to the Sunday Express.

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is said to be unhappy with the striking options at his disposal and would like the club to strengthen up front during the January transfer window.

Cavani is 31 years of age, and with the Uruguayan’s contract at PSG expiring in 18 months, it would be very surprising if Chelsea made an offer as high as being reported.

The London club have a policy of offering just one-year contract extensions to players in their thirties and while Sarri is said to be keen to bring in a new forward, the club may seek out a younger or cheaper alternative instead.

AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain could be available on a loan deal while Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

However, reports in the English media suggest the Cherries will fight hard to keep the 26-year-old from the Blues’ grasp this month.
