MVV Maastricht defender Xavier Mbuyamba is currently on trial with Chelsea this week, according to reports in the Netherlands.
The Blues are allowed to sign youth players under their transfer ban, and with the 17-year-old yet to sign a professional contract, he is free to train ahead of a possible move.
MVV’s manager Ron Elsen has confirmed that the Dutch club are powerless if Chelsea or another team come in for the player:
“MVV cannot, of course, compete with a top club like Chelsea.”
Mbuyamba has made ten appearances in the Dutch second division this season, having made his senior debut against FC Volendam in the 3-2 defeat back in November.
It is believed a number of scouts from other clubs were present to see the centre-back in action as he played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen earlier this month.
In addition to the Blues, Liverpool, Celtic, Bayern Munich, Porto and a number of Eredivisie sides have been tracking Mbuyamba’s progress.
