As the Barclays Premier League takes a halt for the international break, it gives fans and teams a week to look back at the transfer business done over the past few months, and a chance for us to analyze the moves made by each team and implications on their title credentials.

This summer’s transfer window saw a record total spending by all 20 teams, as the total nearly hit £630 million over the course of the summer. Also, each of the top four sides except Arsenal saw a managerial change, which brings about a whole new competition for this season. The conventional rivalry between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger has now ended, with Jose Mourinho making his comeback with his flamboyance to Chelsea, and David Moyes bringing his wealth of experience and stability to Manchester United.

Another new contender we see are the second highest spenders in the league, Manchester City, with new boss Manuel Pellegrini spending £90 million to bring new players into the already star studded lineup. The shock of the window, and perhaps this decade, would be a new world record set for a transfer. Tottenham Hotspur saw their Gareth Bale being poached the entire window by Spanish giants Real Madrid, and the fee being talked about settled in the region of £85 million, exceeding Cristiano Ronaldo’s then record fee of £83 million move from Manchester United to Madrid. However, Spurs have made the fee count, and have brought in several top players to ensure a successful season, and finally entry into the UEFA Champions League fray.

According to ESPN, Chelsea have perhaps come out on top if we compare the entirety of their squad. Lead by one of the best coaches in the world, Mourinho has finally made his comeback to the club, and will surely fight for the title this season. With players like Willian, Samuel Eto’o, Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle, Mourinho has ensured Chelsea have enough firepower to continue the barrage of goals at Stamford Bridge. Also, Juan Mata’s decision of staying will be decisive, as the Spaniard’s left footed wizardry combined with Eden Hazard’s right footed dribbling can break any defence in the league.
