Chelsea Look Likely To Sign Mangala Ahead Of Man United Now Barca Are Not Interested

Centre-back, Eliaquim Mangala is one of the most highly sought-after players in Europe this summer and he is expected to leave the Portugal giants amid interest from some top European clubs. The 23-year-old has spent three successful seasons with Porto since joining from Standard Liege in 2011 but his time at Dragao Caixa seems to be coming to an end.

However, any interested party will have to match Porto’s demands with the Portuguese side determined to get as much money as they can for his services. They have reportedly set the ball rolling at £36 million, which has already dissuaded Barcelona from submitting a bid, according to the Daily Star.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is targeting a new defender following David Luiz’s high-profile switch to PSG. With striker Diego Costa set to sign for the Blues, and midfielder Fabregas already putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, Mourinho wants to sign a defender to boost Chelsea’s chances of lifting the Premier League trophy next season.

However, they will have to contend with interest from Manchester United with new manager Louis Van Gaal reportedly a fan of Mangala. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic having left, Van Gaal wants to bring in Mangala to strengthen his defensive options and United may be able to offer more first team football to the centre back but they will not be able to offer Champions League football which could put the Blues in the driving seat on this transfer.
