Chelsea loanee eyes World Cup spot to prove worth to Antonio Conte

Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham says he believes he can solve the club’s striking woes, and aims a spot at the World Cup to prove so.

Abraham joined Swansea on-loan at the start of the season, however has had mixed fortunes at the Liberty Stadium.

After five goals in his first ten games for the Swans, the 20-year-old has managed just two in the 24 games in which he has appeared since – both of those coming in a 8-1 drubbing of Notts County in the FA Cup.

Despite his lack of form however, Abraham is aiming to make a late push into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup this summer to force himself into the Chelsea frame next season.

“If I got into the World Cup squad I would be knocking on the door at Chelsea,” said the 20-year-old, who has made two substitute appearances for the Blues.

“I have to finish (the season) strong, look to the World Cup squad this summer and then focus on Chelsea. My aim is to go back and do well with Chelsea.

“I like to believe Chelsea is where I will go through and do well. I have been there since I was six years old. My dream is to break into the first team.”

Abraham made his senior debut for England back in November in a friendly against Germany. but has since dropped back down to Aidy Bothroyd’s U21s.

And to make that jump back up this summer, the Swansea star knows he will have to find his shooting boots again before the season draws to a close.

He said: “For me, it shows I have to keep doing it at my club, Swansea. It has been a tough spell and I didn’t really expect, with such big competition, to get straight back into the England team.

“I just have to do my best and get another chance.”
