Chelsea Loan Watch: How Are 12 Of The Club’s Players Faring Away From Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea currently have 24 players out on loan so, in this article, we have decided to focus on 12 of them to see how they are faring away from the club this season.

It is a testament to Chelsea’s academy and the depth within the senior setup that the club can loan out so many players and still have numbers to spare at Cobham.

Some loanees have flourished and could well be in contention for the first-team squad next campaign whilst others haven’t really made the impact they would have hoped.

Press the next page as we look at how the players have performed out on loan this season.

Ethan Ampadu

The 21-year-old has been a regular starter for Venezia in Serie A this campaign, playing the majority of his games as a midfielder.

Emerson Palmieri

The Italian was sent out on loan to Lyon at the start of the season, but the Blues tried to recall him in January after the season-ending injury suffered by Ben Chilwell. However, Lyon refused to release Emerson and he will remain in France until the summer. He is not expected to sign for them on a permanent basis, despite playing regularly.

Levi Colwill

The 19-year-old has had an excellent season for Huddersfield Town in the Championship, making 24 league appearances for the Terriers. He is already regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the division.

Ian Maatsen

The left-back has played 33 games for Coventry City this campaign, and he has played a key role in helping the club maintain a comfortable midtable position in the Championship.

Dujon Sterling

Like Maatsen and Colwill, Sterling has been everpresent for his team, playing 24 times for Blackpool in all competitions. At 22 years of age, though, a decision may need to be made on his future this summer.

Tino Anjorin

The midfielder had a very difficult spell at Lokomotiv Moscow in the first half of the season, with his time in Russia cut short, having made only nine appearances due to injury. He joined Colwill at Huddersfield in January, playing five games in total so far.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

There is a very real danger that the Frenchman will return to Stamford Bridge in the summer. AC Milan have the option to buy the midfielder but he has made only 17 appearances so far this campaign.

Danny Drinkwater

The 32-year-old has been a regular starter for Championship strugglers Reading and he is expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires this summer, following his spell with the Royals.

Conor Gallagher

The midfielder has been a revelation for Crystal Palace, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 30 matches. He is likely to fight for a first-team place when he returns to Cobham in June.

Billy Gilmour

In contrast to Gallagher, the Scotland international has found things tough at Norwich City. The Canaries have struggled at the foot of the Premier League all season and some fans even turned on the young midfielder after some poor performances. Hopefully, he learns from the experience and comes back a better player.

Armando Broja

The Albanian has impressed whilst playing for Southampton and the Saints are keen on keeping the player on a permanent basis. Other teams, including Arsenal, West Ham and AC Milan are also tracking his progress but manager Thomas Tuchel may be keen to keep him.

Michy Batshuayi

The Belgian has done pretty well out on loan at Besiktas, scoring 12 times in 25 league appearances, so the Blues shouldn’t have any issue finding a buyer for the striker.
