Chelsea Loan Marko Marin To Seville

The Blues secured the German Marko Marin’s signature last summer while he was still playing in his home country with Werder Bremen in a deal worth £7 million. His move to England has not quite turned out as he expected, as he has failed to establish himself in the starting line-up. He was overlooked on the majority of occasions by Roberto di Matteo, who started last season in charge, and even by Rafael Benitez, who took over from him in the middle of the season.

The main reason for his omission was his recurring injuries, which ultimately affected his form and fitness. He spent nearly the entire season either on the bench, or in the reserves team. His path to the first-team setup is blocked by the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses, and it looked like he would most likely spend yet another season warming the benches at Stamford Bridge.

Keeping exactly that in mind, current manager Jose Mourinho has taken a decision on letting the 24-year old go out on loan in order to gain maximum game time as possible, which will help his cause and will earn him some valuable experience. Metro now reports that the club have thus agreed a deal with La Liga side Seville, who have secured his signature for the coming season. They made an official announcement stating, “Chelsea Football Club and Sevilla Fútbol Club have reached an agreement for the season-long loan of Marko Marin, subject to the completion of legal documentation and a medical.”

Seville were themselves on the lookout for a wide man following the sale of Jesus Navas to Chelsea’s domestic rivals Manchester City. This deal certainly looks like a win-win for all the parties involved. Seville’s woes are solved for the time being and Marin gets his game-time he was craving for. Do you think that Marin will return to Chelsea a better player at the end of next season and perhaps, challenge the likes of Mata and Hazard for a place in the starting 11?
