Chelsea Linked With Shock Move For German International Shot Stopper

Chelsea are weighing up a potential approach for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Blues are looking at bringing in potential cover for Edouard Mendy, who will be away with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.

Many assumed that Kepa Arrizabalaga would fill in during Mendy’s absence, but there are stories that the Spaniard may leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window to get more game time.

Even so, going after someone like ter Stegen would be surprising, considering the German international would command a sizeable salary and would expect to be a regular starter.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed concerns about Mendy’s form in recent weeks, but that hardly suggests he is keen on replacing him, especially after putting in so many excellent displays over the last year

Ter Stegen hasn’t exactly been putting in great performances himself and, while Barca may be open to selling him due to their financial situation, it’s probably wise to treat this rumour with a great deal of scepticism
