Chelsea Line Up £40m Rice Alternative With Defender Convinced He Will Be Moving To London This Summer

Chelsea have turned their attention away from West Ham’s Declan Rice to Brighton captain Lewis Dunk, according to the Sun.

The Seagulls defender is valued at £40m, around half of Rice’s valuation, and it is thought that the 28-year-old would represent better value for money.

Dunk is a Chelsea supporter, and the Sun reports that the centre-half already “believes” he will be moving to the Blues this summer if the two sides can come to an agreement.

A no-nonsense centre-half, Dunk would certainly add some leadership to Frank Lampard’s backline and he is also a decent passer of the ball.

However, despite three seasons of Premier League football at Brighton, he doesn’t really have a lot of experience of playing at the highest level, having never played in Europe and having just one solitary England cap to his name.

Chelsea, though, appear unwilling to push the boat out for Rice and it remains to be seen whether that will prove to be a good decision.
