Chelsea Liking Galatasaray Star

Chelsea Liking Galatasaray Star

The need for attacking reinforcements at Chelsea Football Club has seen them being linked to a long list of top strikers across Europe, and the latest addition to that list now is Yilmaz.

The striker arrived at Galatasaray just last year and has had a fantastic debut season for them, helping them clinch the league title where Yilmaz’s 20 league goals were vital to their success. Along with that, they also put in a spirited performance in the UEFA Champions League this season, just falling short to Real Madrid.

Such has been Yilmaz’s impact at the club that the 27-year old has managed to overshadow the arrival of big name players like Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder in his first season. He has been deadly in front of goal, and as a result he has attracted the attention of several big name clubs.

Joining that long list of suitors is now Chelsea. The Blues are poised to welcome Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge, and it has been reported by Metro that Mourinho has ordered his future club to put the wheels in motion regarding the capture of Yilmaz. The Portugese manager sees him as perfect for Chelsea in terms of his individual traits and playing style, along with giving current strikers Fernando Torres and Demba Ba some serious competition for their place in the starting 11.

Despite the fact that Yilmaz has admitted his happiness at the thought of staying put at Galatasaray, he maintains that the final decision of selling him or keeping him next season rests completely with the club. “I’m really happy here,” Yilmaz said this month. “I have a long-term contract here. If an offer is put on the table then it’s the club’s decision which will matter, not mine.”

An offer in the region of £20 million is thought to be enough to get the Galatasaray hierarchy’s interest peaked. Do you see Mourinho making Yilmaz his first summer signing?
