Chelsea legend refuses to rule out return to the club

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has refused to rule out the possibility of him returning to the club, saying that he is aware he is at the centre of much speculation.

It remains unclear where Antonio Conte stands with Chelsea, with the Italian still in charge of the Blues but rumoured to be heading for the exit door once a replacement is brought in.

It is believed that former Napoli boss Mauricio Sarri is Chelsea’s No.1 target to take over at Stamford Bridge, and it is rumoured that Zola would be part of his backroom staff if a deal is struck.

However, speaking to Sky Sports about the situation, the Italian admits he just wants the case resolved as quickly as possible.

“I am in a very difficult situation as I am part of the speculation,” he said.

“I really hope whatever happens, that it happens quickly.

“At the moment you need to have a clear situation as quickly as possible.

“We are talking about two coaches that I respect a lot – Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

“For me to say more on this situation is difficult.”

Zola will forever be one of Chelsea’s all time great, and it would be a welcomed move if he was to return to the club in some capacity.
