Chelsea legend expresses concerns on Blues’ star midfielder- he’s right

Chelsea stormed to Premier League victory last season and the capture of N’Golo Kante from Leicester City was a key-part of their success, as the French midfielder played a huge part in the Blues’ title success- just like he did with the Foxes 12 months beforehand.

Kante swiftly became a crucial part of Antonio Conte’s side and excelled when the Blues switched to a three-man defence, which saw the French international protect the back line and mop up danger in the middle of the park.

Naturally, comparisons with Chelsea legend Claude Makelele swiftly followed and Kante is set for a big future- although Makelele has expressed his concerns- which might seem unfair but it’s clear he has a point.

Quoted by The Daily Express, Makelele spoke about Kante’s lack of experience in the Champions League, as Chelsea were away from European involvement last season, and the Blues legend is expecting a much harder test for Conte’s side this summer.

“At the moment Kante is special and one of the best midfielders. The problem is, I played 25 years in football at this level and comparisons are being made in a bad way.”

“This season he did not play in the Champions League. Every four days there will be games. With the national team there will be games. There will be a lot of games. He needs to get that experience.”

“When he is at that level, he will not run 90 minutes all the time. He will need to listen to the rhythm, the way he plays. This will be key for him.  I hope this will be the situation. I hope he does better than I did in my career.”

Kante is yet to be tested with two games every week and the concern is that the Frenchman will be unable to continue with his level performances, as he’s established a reputation for running himself into the ground and appearing across the pitch.

With an increase in games next season, and duties for the French national side, Kante may find it difficult to continue with his current style of play- and he’ll be tested vastly to adapt and show there is more to his game.

It’s crucial that Antonio Conte signs the ideal partner for his starring French midfielder this summer and the depth within the side needs to be strengthened to ease the reliance upon Kante, otherwise problems could occur.
