Chelsea knocked back in their pursuit of Ligue 1 star

Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri will wait to see who is in charge at Chelsea this summer before entertaining offers from the Blues, according to reports.

Chelsea are keen to land the Ligue 1 superstar to bolster their options in midfield, and want to get business done early with a number of other parties interested.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona are all understood to be admirers of the 26-year-old.

And Chelsea looked set to beat the competition to his signature by offering Nice a cool £35 million for his signature.

Seri is being eyed by Chelsea a replacement for Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is expected to return to Monaco after a dismal first season in South West London.

However Seri is in no rush to make a decision on his future, and will wait to hear on the future of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte before he considers a move to Stamford Bridge.

Conte is widely expected to leave Chelsea in the coming months after a poor second season and a number of high profile rifts with the club’s hierarchy.

The Blues currently sit 5th in the league after a dismal run of only four wins in 2018, and look set to miss out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
