Chelsea Keeper Not Concerned With Barca Snub

Barcelona are lining up potential replacements for the imminent departure of their current number one goalie Victor Valdes. The Spanish international has confirmed time and again that he will leave the Nou Camp at the end of his current contract which expires at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, currently on loan at Napoli, and Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen currently top the Catalan club’s wish list. There have also been reports which suggest that Courtois, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, is surprisingly not a serious option for Barcelona.

However, Metro is reporting that Courtois was never interested in a move to Nou Camp, as revealed by his father. Courtois Sr. has claimed that Barcelona was never an option for his son, who will sit down with Chelsea to sort his future in the summer.

He said, “Thibaut is not disappointed that Barcelona have chosen another goalkeeper It was never a real option. Thibaut still has a contract until the end of the season at Atletico. It is logical that there are talks with Chelsea about his future at this point. And that’s what we are doing.”

The 21-year-old is expected to join back with the Blues ahead of the 2014-15 season after spending three years on loan at Atletico Madrid. Next summer, the Chelsea manager may have to face a tricky situation in deciding his number one goalkeeper out of the two of Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois.
