Chelsea Keen On Shakhtar Donetsk Attacker

Even if he is having one of the best seasons of his career at Shakhtar, Alex Texeira is looking to leave Ukraine. The tense situation and the insecurity regarding the club’s future has determined the player’s agent to get in contact with clubs that are interested in the 25-year-old attacking midfielder. Texeira is now valued at about £18m and can cover both wings if necessary. He is also capable of leading the game as an attacking midfielder which is something that Chelsea miss from time to time. He could even step in for Fabregas if necessary. Mourinho would get a lot of use out of this player who has been playing for the Ukraine side since January 2010. His deal is set to expire in 2018 but it is very unlikely he will get to finish that agreement.

Texeira has an incredible record for this season managing 26 goals and 5 assists in 26 games. Sure he scored 4 of those in the Champions League qualifications and he is performing in the Premier Liga in the Ukraine, but still he has shown a lot of quality.

According to Metro, the midfielder admitted to having heard about contact being made probably between Chelsea and his agent but insisted nothing is settled yet. Currently on vacation in Brazil, Texeira could be a great addition to the team especially if he maintains his appetite for goal. Chelsea are in big trouble with Costa misfiring, Remy mostly injured and Falcao non-existent. This is one of those transfers that could be made during the winter transfer window despite the quality of the player involved. Usually big transfers occur during the summer but this time could be different given the circumstances. Shakhtar have sold Willian to Anzhi in January so why not sell Texeira to Chelsea at the beginning of 2016?
