Chelsea Involved In Battle To Sign 97M World Cup Winner On Free Transfer

Chelsea could make a move for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan publication reports that the Frenchman still holds Blues boss Thomas Tuchel in high regard after the pair worked together at Borussia Dortmund, and there is the potential for a reunion, with the player out of contract in the summer.

Barca have offered a new deal to Dembele, who they signed for an initial £97m four and a half years ago, but the World Cup winner has so far stalled on putting pen to paper on the extension.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Chelsea have the “capacity” to pay Dembele what he wants in terms and wages and signing-on fees, although they also state that Manchester United could get involved.

The fact that Dembele was “extremely happy” under Tuchel, though, could suggest that a switch to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer at the end of the season is a growing possibility.
