Chelsea Interested In Santos FC Rising Star

Chelsea are known for always being on their toes when it comes to signing promising young players. Even though not all have turned out to be spectacular when trying to adapt to Premier League football, there is no need to stop when it comes to looking for talent. Right now, the Blues have the most players in Europe out on loan, most of whom are under the age of 23. Despite those numbers some players may be almost ready to fight for a first team place at Stamford Bridge. One such case is that of Thiago Maia who was already featured in Brazil’s first team and won the Gold in Rio. He is just 19 and he is already an important part of Santos’ starting eleven which is not the same when the midfielder is not on the pitch.

According to Metro, the Brazilian club with which Maia is under contract until 2019 might be willing to sell. The asking price is somewhere in the range of £14million. The youngster shouldn’t have trouble adapting to London life as he already has several fellow compatriots settled in at Chelsea. David Luiz, Oscar and Willian would surely help with the transition which again has proven difficult for some South-American players.

Unfortunately, there is a downside as the player is part of Santos’ economic capital. He handed over 72% of his financial rights to his current club which means they will want to get as much as they can for Maia. If rumors are true, PSG are also interested in the young Brazilian who would probably get more time on the pitch in Paris than in London where there’s little room for players with such little experience. If he does consider things such as club history, competitiveness, domestic competitions and more, Chelsea would be the obvious way to go. Given the current formation Maia would be competing with Kante, Fabregas, Oscar and Matic for a spot in the starting eleven. He does represent an option for the future and having him learn from all these incredible players could translate into an amazing player for Conte down the line.
