Chelsea Interested In French Wonderkid

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Monaco teenager Anthony Martial. The 19-year-old is one of the worlds hottest prospects after bursting onto the scenes with Monaco over the last couple of years. Last season the youngster played a big part in Monaco’s team, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.

Yesterday, Chelsea announced the signing of Pedro from Barcelona in a deal believed to be worth around £22m. They have already wrapped up deals for Baba Rahman and Asmir Begovic this summer, as well as a loan deal for Radamel Falcao from Monaco.

Spanish newspaper AS has reported Chelsea’s interest in Martial, saying that they could be lining up a bid of around £40m.. Which seems a little far fetched when you consider that just last month Spurs were linked with the player for around £18m. It’s often wise to ignore the fee’s quoted, and in this case it is a must, Martial is a hugely talented striker – but not for £40m!

There were rumours on Wednesday night that Chelsea director Michael Emanalo had been at the match to watch Valencia play Monaco, although that is unconfirmed. It’s also impossible to know which players he may have been watching.

Martial has started the new season well for Monaco, scoring a goal and helping with two assists in just four games for the French side so far this season.

Whether he will become a Chelsea player anytime soon remains to be seen, but this deal has the look of Kurt Zouma’s written all over it. A young Frenchman touted for greatness, but not looking as if he could break into the Chelsea team just yet. However, when you look at Zouma now, a lot has changed!
