“Good News” – Mauricio Pochettino Confirms Double Injury Boost For Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella could be in the matchday squad for the game against Brentford this weekend.

Both defenders have returned to full training and, when asked in his pre-match press conference whether the pair will make the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, Pochettino said:

“We need to assess him [Thiago Silva] and Marc Cucurella. Maybe it is possible to be involved in the squad. Good news, if they will be possible to be in the squad.”

Silva has missed the last three games due to a groin problem he picked up during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last month. He sat out the draw against Manchester City, the defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final as well as the victory over Leeds in the FA Cup midweek.

Cucurella, meanwhile, hasn’t been seen in action since December. The left-back sustained an ankle injury during the 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park and he needed surgery.

Pochettino has provided further details on Nkunku’s latest setback

Prior to the Leeds win, the Chelsea boss confirmed that Christopher Nkunku had suffered yet another injury problem, with the player estimated to be out for about a month.

Pochettino has now revealed that the Frenchman has a hamstring issue. The player is in rehab and the club will assess his progress over the coming weeks.

Six other Chelsea players are still in rehabilitation

In addition to Nkunku, Carney Chukewuemeka (ankle), Benoit Badiashile (groin), Romeo Lavia (thigh), Lesley Ugochukwu and Reece James (both hamstring) remain unavailable.

Pochettino also had some disappointing news about Wesley Fofana. The defender has been recovering from an ACL injury he sustained in pre-season but it now appears that he will not make his comeback before the campaign ends in May.
