Chelsea Dealt Fitness Blow With £58M Signing Set To Miss 6 Games

Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has suffered ankle ligament damage, according to the Daily Mail.

The Belgian international picked up the injury in training on Thursday last week and he underwent a scan the following day.

Although the final diagnosis has not yet been confirmed, it is believed that Lavia will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

The 19-year-old will definitely miss the Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley fixtures, in addition to the Carabao Cup tie versus Brighton at the end of September.

Lavia could also be a doubt for the London derby against Arsenal on October 21st. He will work hard during the next international break to be in contention for that game but it’s likely to come too soon, based on the recovery period required.

It’s a tough break for Lavia

The midfielder joined the Blues from Southampton for £58m in mid-August but his disrupted pre-season meant it took the best part of three weeks for him to get up to match fitness.

However, just days after returning to full training with his teammates, Lavia has suffered another injury setback.

Chelsea have a lengthy injury list

Lavia is just one of 9 players currently on the treatment table, but four of those could make their comebacks after the international break.

Benoit Badiashile (hamstring) is already back in training, while captain Reece James (hamstring) and Trevoh Chalobah (hamstring) will also return to action shortly.

Armando Broja is said to be almost ready to feature following a serious knee injury, although the Albanian international is expected to be eased back into things.

Carney Chukwuemeka, Christopher Nkunku and Marcus Bettinelli (all knee) are not likely to be available anytime soon, while Wesley Fofana is set to miss most of the season after sustaining an ACL injury during pre-season.
