Chelsea face a trip to Anfield this weekend and could have their club captain Reece James returning after a long spell recovering from injury.
The Blues face Liverpool on Sunday as they look to make it six wins in a row in all competitions and cement their place in the top four.
However, they face a Liverpool side who sit on top of the Premier League table and have the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season.
The positive news however is that the Blues could have Reece James returning for them after dealing with a hamstring issue for a lengthy period.
He suffered the injury during a pre-season match against Real Madrid and could return this weekend if all has gone well in training this week. However, if not, he should be available for Chelsea’s return to Stamford Bridge against Newcastle next weekend.
Expected return date – Sunday 20 October vs Liverpool (A)
Ben Chilwell
The former Leicester City defender has been missing in action since the summer when he was told by Enzo Maresca that he was no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge.
Chilwell did seek a transfer but couldn’t get out in time and so he remains a Chelsea player and was listed down on the injury list as having an illness but could be available for selection against Liverpool this weekend.
Enzo Maresca said in his Thursday press conference: “Chilly is one of our players. He was ill [this week], so he didn’t get any sessions. We will see how he is today and tomorrow.”
