Updates And Expected Return Dates On Reece James & Two More In Chelsea Latest Injury News

Chelsea defender Reece James has been ruled out of the early part of the season with a thigh injury that he suffered in pre-season.

The defender has had several injury problems over the past few years with two separate thigh injuries and a knee injury just last season.

This year he will be hoping for more game time under new boss Enzo Maresca, but the English full-back will have to wait until he recovers from his current issue.

James suffered his injury in a pre-season match against Real Madrid in early August where he was eventually taken off after 70 minutes.

After Chelsea’s opening game of the season against Manchester City where the Blues lost 2-0, Maresca said: “Unfortunately, he got an injury two or three minutes before we were going to change him [against Real Madrid]. Otherwise, we would have avoided it. That can happen. Sometimes injuries can be because of different things, but we are managing the situation well.”

Over the weekend Malo Gusto started in place of James with the England international having to regain his starting XI spot once he returns from injury.

Expected return date – Saturday 14 September vs Bournemouth
