Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane says Marc Cucurella is still a doubt for Sunday’s clash against Manchester City.
The Spanish international was pictured in training on Friday, and while McFarlane said it is a good sign that Cucurella is back out on the grass, a final decision hasn’t been made on whether he will make the trip to the Etihad:
“Yeah, that is positive. We’re undecided on that so I don’t really have the full information on that as of yet. I’m sure it will come out in the next couple of days.”
Cucurella was forced off during the 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa last weekend with a hamstring problem, and missed the draw against Bournemouth as a consequence.
McFarlane may not take a gamble on Cucurella
As it looks very likely that he will only be in charge for one game, you can’t see the interim head coach taking a risk with the fitness of any players.
McFarlane is essentially keeping the seat warm, and the last thing he will want to do is to cause any issues for his permanent successor in the job.
For that reason, the likeliest outcome is that Cucurella is given a place on the bench.
