Chelsea Dealt Major Injury Setback Ahead Of FA Cup Semi Final

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is “set to miss” this Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.

The centre-back has been sidelined with a toe injury since the 2-2 draw against Brentford last month.

However, the club’s medical staff were hopeful that Colwill would recover in time for the trip to Wembley this weekend.

The club haven’t posted an official update on their injury situation so far this week but, in their last post prior to the 6-0 win over Everton, the centre-back was still undergoing rehabilitation.

Considering the length of time he has been out for and the fact that he hasn’t been pictured in first-team training in recent days, it is fair to assume that the Mail report is accurate.

We should get official confirmation from the Blues on Friday either via a post on the website or from manager Mauricio Pochettino himself at his pre-match press conference.

Who will line up in defence for Chelsea against City?

After keeping a rare clean sheet against Everton earlier this week, centre-back pairing Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva are expected to retain their places on Saturday.

Pochettino is unlikely to consider alternatives. Axel Disasi sat out Monday night’s game with a minor knock so he may return to the bench against City, while Benoit Badiashile’s poor form means it would be a surprise if he is recalled to the starting lineup.

Another high-profile Chelsea star is a doubt to face City

In addition to Colwill, there are also concerns about the fitness of Enzo Fernandez. The midfielder was unavailable for the victory over Everton and there are reports coming out of Argentina suggesting that he is suffering complications from a hernia.

It has been claimed that the 23-year-old may need an operation but that would sideline him for the remaining fixtures this season.
