‘Hope It’s Not Something Serious’ ‘Sigh’ Fans Worried As Key Chelsea Star Returns Injured From International Duty

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has withdrawn from Argentina’s squad due to injury.

The 24-year-old played 78 minutes during the 1-0 win over Venezuela but it was confirmed after the match that he has suffered swelling to his knee. Fernandez could now be a doubt for next weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest and fans have been expressing their concerns on X:

Fernandez may need an extended rest

Inflammation in the knee can settle down pretty quickly but it is an issue that can flare up again if the injury isn’t managed properly.

Either head coach Enzo Maresca will have to manage Fernandez’s minutes over the coming weeks, or he could opt to rest him in upcoming fixtures.

The second option would be preferable for the player’s long-term fitness, but with so many important matches coming up, you can’t see him being left out.

In addition to Fernandez, Estevao has encountered a fitness problem whilst away with his country. The winger is set to miss Brazil’s fixture against Japan due to illness.

Maresca is also currently without Andrey Santos (knock), Liam Delap (hamstring), Cole Palmer (groin), Dario Essugo (thigh) and Levi Colwill (ACL).

The likes of Reece James (muscular), Tosin Adarabioyo (calf) and Wesley Fofana (concussion) will, though, be available for the Forest game.
