Chelsea confirmed on their official website at the weekend that Wesley Fofana had undergone “successful hamstring surgery”.
The centre-back has not played since the international break, having sustained the muscular injury prior to the game against Tottenham.
Specialists assessed the extent of the problem and agreed that an operation was the best course of action.
That means Fofana will now have to go through a lengthy rehabilitation process and it is likely that he has played his last match this campaign.
