Chelsea Injury News Ahead Of The Game Against Sheffield United

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that both Pedro and N’Golo Kante are major doubts for this week’s game against Sheffield United.

Pedro was due to start against Norwich in the 3-2 win on Saturday, but he was injured in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Ross Barkley in the starting eleven. Lampard said the Spaniard is highly unlikely to return this weekend:

“Pedro picked up a hamstring injury and we will assess the severity of it over the next couple of days, but I think it will be tough for him to be back for next week at first glance.”

Lampard was slightly more optimistic about Kante. The Frenchman is carrying an ankle injury and wasn’t able to recover in time for the match at Carrow Road. The Blues manager, however, suggested that the midfielder will not be rushed back to face the Blades:

“He’s trying and we are trying to get him through it, but the game yesterday just came too quickly and he was in too much pain. But again he is one to assess and we want him back in the team because he’s an important player. I think the international break will be great for him, to try and recover him.”

Chelsea’s injury list is pretty long at the moment. Mason Mount picked up a knock to his calf in the closing minutes against Norwich but he should be back to play this weekend.

Reece James (ankle), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Achilles) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) remain on the sidelines, while Antonio Rudiger is building his way up to match fitness following his recovery from knee surgery.
