Chelsea In Bidding War With Arsenal For Rooney

It looks almost certain that Rooney is likely to end up at either of these two London giants, after it was reported that he is keen to quit United but sees his future in the English Premier League itself. The race for his signature was always between Chelsea and Arsenal, who are both prioritizing and strengthening their attack ahead of next season. Managers Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are both keen on the English striker who is understood to be unhappy with life at Old Trafford and is looking for a new challenge.

Now that Arsenal finally have the money to spend after all these years, Wenger is looking to go for big names as he looks to sign Rooney and pair him up with Gonzalo Higuain who is on the verge of joining the Gunners. Wenger even launched a £20 million bid for Rooney a night ago night and is awaiting United’s response for the same.

It looks like Mourinho will have to quickly make things happen now if he is serious about his interest in Rooney, and Metro report that the Portugese is planning a bid of his own which will be more than Arsenal’s £20 million and closer to United’s valuation of £25 million for the 27-year old. He is hoping to convince United to let their iconic, but unhappy No. 10 leave at that price.

Chelsea too are better placed financially than Arsenal to make this deal happen smoothly, as even if Arsenal manage to convince United to sell Rooney, it is certain that the talks between him and Arsenal will not be smooth sailing. Rooney’s weekly wages of £250,000 could possibly play a part as Arsenal will most likely offer him lesser wages and will be hoping to negotiate with him. Chelsea, on the other hand, are better equipped to match his wages.

Chelsea will have to step in quickly and place their own bid if they want to have any chance of beating Arsenal and luring Rooney to Stamford Bridge but this looks like a cracker of a transfer story as things look to be hotting up!
