Chelsea Have ‘Shown Interest’ In £93m Rated Serie A Marksman But Face Fierce Competition From La Liga Giants

Chelsea are one of three clubs that have “shown interest” in Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, according to the Corriere Della Sera.

The Italian newspaper claims that Barcelona and Real Madrid are also closely monitoring the Argentinian international, and it is believed that Barca, in particular, will be the Blues’ main rivals for the forward.

Martinez’s buyout clause €111m (£93m) would, though, prove a big stumbling block for the La Liga champions, although it is not clear whether Chelsea are prepared to match it either.

The 22-year-old plays as part of a two-man strikeforce at Inter, alongside Romelu Lukaku, in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system, and he would have to adapt to a lone striker role if he did move to Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Frank Lampard wanted a new forward to be brought in last month, but moves for Edinson Cavani and Dries Mertens failed to materialise. They will likely revisit the situation in the summer, and it appears Martinez will be on their shortlist of targets.
