Barcelona’s Sergino Dest is the “number one goal” for Chelsea to reinforce their backline this month, according to Sport.
The Catalan publication has confirmed that the Blues are pursuing the American international as they look for a “versatile fullback”.
Dest is also being looked at by Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich but the player himself is said to be reluctant to leave the Camp Nou where he is hoping to become a key player.
With Barca remaining in financial difficulty, though, the La Liga side are willing to listen to any offers for their player, with Dest’s asking price having been set at just €20m (£16.7m).
The 21-year-old is ostensibly a right-back but he is attack-minded by nature and he would perfectly slot into Thomas Tuchel’s system as a wingback.
There has been some speculation that Dest could be signed as a potential replacement for the injured Ben Chilwell on the left flank but, it should be pointed out that Dest is predominantly right-footed, which would not make him best suited for the role.
