Chelsea Have Cech’s Departure Covered

It is strange how just one keeper could trigger a chain of massive changes around some of Europe’s most important clubs. First there is Manchester’s David De Gea who could influence Casillas, Szczesny and Handanovic to trade places and change clubs. Now there is Petr Cech whose imminent departure to Arsenal apparently, could also trigger some important changes especially with Premier League clubs. According to Squawka, Mourinho is ready to make a bid for either Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, QPR’s Rob Green or Stoke’s Asmir Begovic. The last name on the list has emerged as the most recent target for Chelsea who know for sure they will lose Cech.

Stoke’s 27 year old keeper will apparently be the subject of a £8m transfer bid which will go down after Courtois is left without any competition. Begovic would be an exceptionally good second keeper even if his statistics are not the best in the world. The teams he’s played for have had a negative contribution to that record so looking into that too deep is not actually relevant. Currently the Bosnian international looks like the most convenient solution and the easiest move to pull off. Lloris is very unlikely to accept becoming a substitute and Green is 35 which even though is not a career ending age for a keeper, it might still be too old for a team that has to play a great number of important matches in the season.
